Black Dog top of the class as Encore and Crackerjack secure Lilly Vision victories
9:00am Friday 6th September 2013 in Sport
The Friday Lilly Vision racing at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club was held in a moderate breeze which held to the finish for most Classes.
There was the usual tussle at the start in IRC division two between David Cunliffe's Encore, Martin Eddy's Temaraire and John Beavis' Tresillian.
The predominantly westerly wind required tacking on the shifts to the first mark, and it was Encore which emerged first to round and hoist spinnaker.
Although Temaraire closed up at one point, Encore held on to cross the finish line first and win on corrected time. Competing for third place was Tresillian and Geoff Davies' Scorpion, and this week it was Tresillian ahead.
With two races in this series to go, Encore is likely to take first overall but will it be Tresillian or Scorpion that takes third.
Divison one IRC sailed the same course as division two, and Damien and Chris Bloor in Daring seemed to have first place sewn up at one stage, but Stuart Sawyer's Black Dog came back at her on the final run to take first. Interestingly when the two sets of results were amalgamated, Encore beat Black Dog.
There was a very good turnout in the multihull fleet and Mike Webb in Crackerjack took the gun and this gave a tie for first place overall in the series with two races to go.
Stevens in Ultra Violet came a good second. This fleet covered the ground quickly in the good breeze. The Sunbeam Class produced a winner in V34 with Simon Carter in V31 coming in second ahead of V10, Jeff Martin.
