On Sunday Budock Vean played their postponed Cornwall Bowl match against Truro at Mullion Golf Club.

Last Sunday the match was postponed due to a torrential thunderstorm at Falmouth Golf Club and conditions were not much better at Mullion with near gale force winds and frequent heavy showers.

Budock Vean took an early lead with a convincing 5&3 victory from the ever reliable pairing of David Penrose and Kevin Bate. However Truro came back strongly with narrow wins in matches two and three to take a 2-1 lead.

Mike O' Hara and David Houldsworth were always in control of their match, eventually winning 3&2  to level  the scores.

Everything now depended on the final match in which Dave Allen and Keith Whitbread  had gone three down  at the turn.  Playing the back nine in the very worst of the weather they managed to stage a magnificent comeback to win at the seventeenth hole and give Budock Vean a  3-2 victory. They will now play Porthpean at Newquay Golf Club on Sunday 10th November.

Meanwhile, in the only slightly calmer conditions at Budock Vean, the 36 hole final of The Admiral Harrison Scratch Cup took place between Steve Gilks and Dave Gudzij.

Dave took a two up lead into lunch but Steve fought back strongly to go 1 up after 27 holes. Dave squared the match up at the 36th hole only to suffer the disappointment of losing at the first extra hole.

Congratulations to Steve Gilks who, in his first year at The Vean has won both the Scratch Cup and the handicapped  Worrall Cup.

On Wednesday the Ladies played a Super Nines Competition which was won by Barbara Craig with an excellent 23 points. Second was Mo Salome with 21 points just beating Mae Brown into third place on countback.
