PENINSULA LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

Falmouth Town v Exmouth Town (Bickland Park, KO 3pm)

Struggling Falmouth Town face a visit from third place Exmouth Town, who could see themselves go top this weekend.

Falmouth will be looking to bounce back from their 4-0 drilling at Ivybridge last weekend and put an end to their three-game losing streak.

With Tavistock taking a surprise point from Elburton Vila last week, Falmouth will need to start picking up some points to avoid slipping further into the relegation zone, with teams around them having games in hand.

However a visit from high-flying Exmouth is going to be a tough ask.

Last year’s division one east champions have won their last three fixtures and boast the league’s second best defence, whihc has allowed the Devon club to make in impressive start to the season despite not having a goalscorer in the top ten for the Peninsula League’s golden boot.

Falmouth will be hoping that they can complete the signing of Penryn Athletic striker Kayne Trevaskis in time for this weekend’s clash.

If the amber and blacks are to have any hope of getting a result then Trevaskis (pictured below) could hold the key, with the striker finding the net 12 times already this season for Penryn Athletic.

PENINSULA LEAGUE Divivion 1 West

Helston Athletic  v Bude Town (Kellaway Park, KO 3pm)

Helston Athletic will be hoping to gain an advantage on their promotion rivals this weekend when they face a visit from second bottom Bude Town.

Divison one west’s second-top scorers will be looking to exploit the league’s leakiest defence and continue their fine goal-scoring record that has seen them rise to fifth place, just behind in-form Dobwalls.

Indeed, Helston haven’t played a league game since last month’s goal-fest against Dobwalls at Lantoom Park where they narrowly lost a nine goal thriller, and Sid Taylor’s Blues will be looking to get back to winning ways this week against a Bude side that have lost seven out their last eight.

Helston striker Mark Goldsworthy will be hoping to get his name on the scoresheet and make a move in the race for the golden boot – Saturday is sure to provide him with the perfect opportunity.

Truro City v Dobwalls (Treyew Road, KO 3pm)

Truro City will be looking to close the gap on Dobwalls in what is expected to be an evenly contested fixture at Treyew Road this Saturday.

Four points behind and with a game in hand, City could put themselves in a great position if they can get past a Dobwalls side that has won three on the bounce, scoring 11 goals in the process.
Consecutive home victories over St Dennis, Helston and Foxhole has seen them rise to fourth in recent weeks, nine points off first placed Sticker.

City, meanwhile, have been consistently inconsistent this season, having won six and lost six so far.

This form shows in their results, beating top of the table Sticker away from home, before then losing to bottom-half side St Dennis.

They will no doubt be aware of the form of striker Martyn Hake, the league’s joint top-scorer with 13 goals this season.

Centre-back Zack Williams, a summer recruitment from Hayle, will have a tough job to keep him quiet should they want to take maximum points on Saturday.

Porthleven v Penryn Athletic (Gala Parc, KO 3pm)

Third placed Penryn Athletic will be considered the favourites for this weekend’s clash with Porthleven at Gala Parc.

Porthleven were on the wrong end of an 8-0 hammering last week at the hands of top of the table Sticker, but may feel they can get a result this week against an out-of-form Penryn side.

Penryn have failed to win in any of their last three matches, and unsettled striker Kayne Trevaskis is not expected to start amid rumours of a transfer to local rivals Falmouth Town.

Gala Parc has been averaging crowds of 57 people this season, but numbers could rise to nearer the season-high 72 for a visit of Penryn, who the Fishermen dumped out of the Throgmorton Cup last month.

Porthleven themselves have not been in the best run of form, winning only one of their last five matches, but they will feel that now is as good a time as any to be facing Steve Jewell’s side.
