Penryn coach Paul Trevaskis says he remains confident that his side can secure a top three finish in Tribute Western Counties West, despite having to cope with a seemingly never-ending injury list.

Scrum half Taron Peacock is the latest Borough casualty set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

The former Redruth development squad player suffered a dislocated shoulder and suspected broken collar bone away at Paignton Saxons on Saturday.

The incident happened in the 65th minute, and resulted in the game being held up for almost an hour while an ambulance was called and Peacock received treatment on the pitch.

The match was subsequently abandoned due to inadequate lighting with the scores tied at 7-7, handing basement club Paignton a share of the points.

The Saxons went on to post a less than charitable match report on their club website accusing Penryn of ”whingeing,” and prompting angry responses from Borough fans and players alike.
Penryn are now forced to face up to  the prospect of being without yet another key player as the season enters the all-important Christmas period.

“Both sides were disrupted on the day so it was probably a fair result, but it was a pretty bad injury to Taron,” Trevaskis said.

“That means we’ve got six guys out at the moment with long term injuries, which isn’t ideal. It’s definitely given us a few problems.

“Josh Chambers is out, Lewis Vague hurt his knee in the first game of the season, Grant Randlesome’s having a scan, Kyle Beasley’s done his ankle ligaments, and now Taron.”
Borough captain Jordan Rose is another long-term absence.

He is yet to recover from a knee injury sustained against Kingsbridge in October.

Rose is set to have a scan later this month, and Trevaskis admitted he had no idea when his skipper would next feature in a red a black shirt.

“That’s a long term injury that seems to be getting longer,” the Penryn coach said.
“But we’ve coped reasonably well with it all up to now. We’ll see where we are around Christmas time and take stock from there.”

Penryn’s league form has been understandably patchy, but the Borough are unbeaten in their last three league outings, and have two home games coming up before the Boxing Day derby against local rivals Falmouth.

“We’ve had a couple of losses, but they’re just blips really,” Trevaskis said. “Third is still our aim. That’s where we want to be.”
