Falmouth Packet: Former Town boss Carey sacked by Newquay Former Town boss Carey sacked by Newquay

Former Falmouth Town manager Alan Carey has been sacked by Newquay.

A short statement on the club's website said: "At a meeting of club officials, Newquay Football Club has decided to terminate first team manager Alan Carey’s position with immediate effect.

Acting chairman Graham Hearnshaw said that “certain club criteria procedures had not been fully implemented and a change of direction was needed.”

The appointment of a new first team manager will be made as soon as possible.

Mr. Hearnshaw also said: "The Club would like to than Alan for his efforts this season and reiterated this was a decision which was not taken lightly. No further comments will be made in this respect."

Carey joined the Peppermints at the start of the season after turning down the opportunity to manage Saltash United.

But a recent string of bad results has seen Newquay slip into the bottom half of the SWPL premier division, and there have been rumours of player unrest.

Carey's dismissal comes days before Newquay face fierce local rivals Godolphin in the second round of the Cornwall Senior Cup.
