Porthleven 0 Bodmin Town 7

A Chris Wright hat-trick helped Cornwall Senior Cup holders Bodmin Town cruise into the third round after a seven goal thrashing of division one west Porthleven at Gala Parc.

Darren Gilbert's side recovered from a rocky start to comprehensively outplay their lower league opponents, who had no answer to Bodmin's pace and guile despite playing some good football.

The visitors might even have reached double figures were it not for the performance of Symon Winnan in the Porthleven goal, drafted in as a last minute replacement for injured goalkeepers Dennis Annear and Matt Quick.

Winnan made a string of superb saves to keep Bodmin at bay, but he was powerless to prevent the Senior Cup holders from progressing.

Sam Matthews opened the scoring in the 12th minute, and Tom Chambers nodded in the second from a James Alexander free kick seven minutes later.

Alexander made it three just before the half time break with a fine effort curled into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Ten minutes after the restart Lee Doel scored Bodmin's fourth, smashing the ball in from inside the six yard box following a goalmouth scramble.

And Chris Wright made it five barely a minute later when he jinked his way past two defenders and rifled an unstoppable shot high into the Porthleven net.

Wright scored his second in the 88th minute when he latched on to a through ball over the top and hit a fierce first-time volley past Winnan, before completing his hat-trick a minute later with a tap-in at the back post.
