Falmouth Town manager John Dent has hit out at recent critics of the club branding them ‘clueless.’

The Bickland Park club faced a backlash from supporters after annoucing plans to sell its ground for housing, and use the proceeds to fund a move to a new, custom-built sports complex.

The move is being driven by the club’s inability to service a historical debt totalling almost £250,000.

If Falmouth are unable to find a new home, directors say the turnstiles may close for good.

But Dent said those who’ve been quick to criticise the way the club is being run don’t have all the facts.

“There are people writing things on forums who don’t know anything about the club, and what’s really going on,” he said.

“They shouldn’t really be making the comments they’re making when they don’t know what’s happening.

“I try and avoid getting involved, but I’ve had to respond to a couple of them because what’s been said is nonsense.”

Directors added that they expect to be able to reveal more details about the proposed move after Christmas, which may involve a joint venture with Falmouth School.

And Dent said despite all the problems facing Town on and off the pitch, he had no regrets about taking over at a club he enjoyed several successful season at as a player.

“I’m loving every minute of it,” he said.

“[Director] Graham Medlin’s great to work with, and the players deserve a  a lot of credit for sticking to their tasks.

“For lads that have lost a lot of games this season, the attitude in the changing room, and the team spirit, is absolutely first class. That’s going to stand us in good stead after Christmas.”

Falmouth travelled to league title favourites Plymouth Parkway on Saturday, where they were beaten 6-2.

The game at Bolitho Park meant Town have faced nine of the SWPL premier division’s top ten teams in the last two months.

And with Saltash up next for Dent’s side, followed by Torpoint Athletic after Christmas, things may get worse before they get better.

But with basement club Liskeard and fellow strugglers Cullompton Rangers yet to visit Bickland Park this season, Dent remains confident his side will start to pick up points - although he admits he’d rather it be sooner than later.

He said: “We have to look at the bottom of the table like a little mini-league, which is why it’s so important we start picking up some points.

“We’ve had one league win since I took over, and I’d like to think that once we’ve won one we can go on and win a few. But we’ve got to win one first.

“The main thing for me is staying in this league. It’s all very well saying we’ve got to play teams around us in January, but really we’ve got to pick up some points before then.

“Inexperience is the main problem. We’ve got a lot of players who haven’t played in the premier division before and they’re still learning.”
