Falmouth Town 1 Cullompton Rangers 1

A late equaliser from Rob Wearne salvaged a point for Falmouth Town at home against fellow strugglers Cullompton Rangers

The game was billed as a must-win for relegation threatened Town, who sit just a point behind Rangers near the foot of the SWPL premier division, but in the end John Dent's side were happy to settle for a point after going behind late on.

Cullompton had the better of the chances during a tepid first half, Sam Kemp forcing two good saves out of Falmouth keeper Danny Burrows in one on one situations.

The best Town could muster was a long range effort from debutant Hugh Howlett, which Rangers keeper Ryan Lewis gathered with ease.

But after the break Town took control of the game, and were unlucky not to take the lead when Ed Timmons missed the target from eight yards out after Lewis had parried Dan Richardson's scuffed effort into his path.

More chances went begging. Falmouth captain Tom Whipp hit the crossbar, and Wearne blazed over with a volley as Town tried to get back on level terms with the clock ticking down and desperation creeping in.

But the former Torquay academy player made up for his earlier miss when he pounced on a loose ball in the box on 81 minutes to hammer in a low drive through a crowd of players.

It was the cue for Town to lay seige to the Cullompton goal, but the visitors defended doggedly and in numbers, frustrating Falmouth time and time again.

And despite their dominance Dent's side were unable to land a killer blow, in the end having to settle for a point that does neither side any favours.
