Porthleven 5 Truro City Reserves 1

A five star display from Porthleven at Gala Parc helped secure Dennis Annear's side their first victory in the league since October, as the Fishermen demolished Truro City Reserves 5-1.

It was the kind of performance Port have threatened to deliver all season, with new signing Chris Blango and midfielder Thomas Hawkin each bagging a brace as Anthony Reynolds's side were routed.

A miserable afternoon for Truro City was compounded by the news soon after that Reynolds had resigned from his position.

The former Hayle boss joined the club in July last year, steering a resurgent Truro to within three points of third placed Helston Athletic in division one west.

Truro managed a late consolation goal thanks to a goalkpeeping howler from Port player manager Dennis Annear in the sixth minute of extra time.

But it did little to take the gloss of the result for the home side, who were well worth the win.

Prior to the game both sets of players observed a minute's silence in memory of lifetime supporter Mainor Ruberry, who sadly passed away on December 27.

And he would no doubt have been proud with the way Port set about Truro right from the whistle, with Jordan Annear's long range effort testing visiting keeper Barry Wyatt inside five minutes.

Scott Palmer registered Truro's first effort on goal when he broke clear of the Porthleven back line, but shot straight at Dennis Annear with only the keeper to beat.

Port's opener came on the half hour mark, Tom Annear's superb cross field ball picking out Chris Wormington on the right.

Falmouth Packet:

Porthleven's Matt Best put in a man-of-the-match performance, with Thomas Hawkin and Chris Blango each scoring a brace.

The youngster cut inside his marker and cracked a low drive at goal which Wyatt could only parry into the path of Hawkin, who nodded in.

Truro's Zak Williams forced a superb save out of Dennis Annear with a powerful header, but some good football from the home side produced the second goal on the stroke of half time.

Sam Kay exchanged passes with Jordan Annear, who found the feet of Jed McCardie.

McCardie's threaded through ball was inch perfect, and there was Hawkin to drive the ball under Wyatt.

Things went from bad to worse for Truro after the break when a run and cross by Tom Annear found Christian Blango ten yards out, and the striker hammered a first time volley into the back of the net.

And Tom Annear registered the goal of the game soon after to put Port 4-0 up.

A Hawkin corner saw the ball bounce loose in the box before finding Annear with his back to goal 12 yards out.

The youngster turned and hammered an unstoppable drive high inti the back of the net.

Falmouth Packet:

Barry Wyatt tries in vain to reach the ball after being dispossessed by Christian Blango for Port's fifth goal.

Port added insult to injury in the 85th minute when Wyatt tried to take the ball past Blango, only for the striker to dispossess him and tap in to an empty net.

Truro managed a consolation goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time when a break down the right saw the ball squared for Tom Langford, and his shot was fumbled over the line by Dennis Annear.

But by then the result was beyond doubt.
