Cullompton 6 Camborne 17

Camborne began the New Year in style with an excellent away victory that keeps them in touch with the leaders in the South West One table.

The Cherry and Whites started with the XV selected for last week’s postponed visit to Bideford with Grant Thirlby at fullback for the injured Joe Parma and the experienced Martin Woolcock in the backrow.

On the day Town gave an effective all round performance with the scrum a particularly pleasing factor. Once again No 8 David Roberts had a big game whilst livewire wing Alex Ducker continued his prolific try-scoring form with a brace of touchdowns.

The visitors made a great start with Ducker crossing wide on the left flank and fly half David Mankee adding a majestic conversion.

Though the home side opened their account midway through the half with a penalty when Ducker raced over for an unconverted score Camborne were good value for their 12-3 lead.

As the interval neared Cullompton narrowed the deficit with their 2nd penalty success but from that point defences were to dominate for the remainder of the encounter.

In the final quarter the Cherry and Whites were particularly well served by Callum Davies on as a replacement for John Griffiths at lock and his good play set up right wing Rob Floyd for the game's decisive final try.

• Camborne will be expecting a big crowd this Saturday when long time League leaders Cleve visit the Recreation Ground.
