A hat-trick from Luke Wort saw Wendron United win 3-1 away at division one west Dobwalls in the third round of the Cornwall Senior Cup to set up a quarter final tie against holders Bodmin Town. 

It was no less than Wendron deserved after a hard-working performance which delighted manager Paul Murray.

"We throughly deserved it," the Wendron boss said. "We knew how we were going to play because we had some feedback from other teams about how they play, so we knew what to expect. They were very physical and closed us down very quickly, but we played well."

Wendron took the lead through Luke Wort's superb left-footed effort after the former Falmouth Town striker had turned his marker.

And Chris Mulroy should have put Wendron two up minutes later only to miss his chance in front of goal.

Dobwalls equalised on the counter attack, but Wendron regained the lead just before half time when Wort found the back of the net with a free kick.

Back came Dowbwalls with a goal from Harry Hook to draw the home side level.

But Wort completed his hat-trick five minutes from time to send Wendron through.

"We huffed and puffed a bit towards the end," said Murray. "It looked like it was going to extra time and I was thinking about substitutions, but in the end we didn't need them. 

"Luke was sueprb, his finishing was magnificent for the three goals. Ryan Tressider played in goal and he was very good too. To be honest they all played very well indeed.

"It was a great performance."

Wendron face perhaps the toughest test they could have hoped for after drawing Bodmin Town in the quarter finals.

The game agsinst Darren Gilbert's side will take place at Under Lane on Saturday, February 15.

Elsewhere Combination League St Day came through their tie against division one west Penzance with an excellent 3-1 win to book a quarter final spot where they will face either Torpoint Athletic or St Austell.
