Wendron dealt Combination League title rivals Illogan a psychological blow with a hard-fought 3-2 victory in the league cup at Underlane.

Illogan's miserable afternoon was further compounded by the sending off of Joe Carlyon by referee Kevin Knowles, which meant the visitors finished the afternoon with ten men.

The game remained goalless until the 75th minute when Illogan took the lead, only for Wendron to equalise soon after.

Midfielder Chris Mulroy put Wendron 2-1 up, but back came Illogan to equalise as tempers on the pitch began to flare.

But Ben Ambrose, back in the Wendron side after missing the Senior Cup quarter final against Bodmin Town, wrapped up the win for the 'dron in the final few minutes, much to the delight of manager Paul Murray.

Porthleven's slim chances of avoiding the drop were given a boost after they battled their way to a 3-3 draw and a point against St Just at Gala Parc.

But Hayle fell to a 2-0 defeat against title contenders St Day at Vogue Park, a result which keeps Matt Harris's side in touch with the teams at the top of the table.
