Dee and Dylan in top form as Falmouth School hosts Cornwall Schools Table Tennis Championships

More than 100 competitors from all over the County entered the Cornwall Schools Individual Table Tennis Championships held at Falmouth School on Thursday 6 March.
This was a record entry for the Cornwall Schools and reflects the strong interest in table tennis in Cornwall at the moment.
There was plenty of local success with Morgan Cardell (Penryn College) reaching the final of the Boys Under 16 Singles against Cornwall No 1 and England ranked Carl Baldry (Bodmin College) with Cardell playing his best table tennis of the season to lose narrowly 11 - 8 in the decider with some spectacular rallies.
There was a huge entry of 30 boys in the Boys Under 11 event with Dylan Tynan (Mylor CP School) emerging from the 6 qualifying groups to also coast through the final knock out stages where he won the final in straight games. Tynan looks to be a star of the future.
Falmouth’s Charlie Scorse (representing Truro College) has hit a rich vein of form recently and in the Boys Under 19 event he beat both Alex Hunt and Locryn Vandervelde from his own club in straight games. Unfortunately for Scorse he also found St Austell's Alex Wright in top form and it was Wright (also representing Truro College) that went on to qualify for the national finals.
The Girls Under 16 event saw many girls from Falmouth School and Penryn College taking part and as expected Dominique Williams (Falmouth School) emerged as a comfortable winner with Chloe Crilly (Falmouth School) hitting top form to secure second place ahead of Paige Baker (Penryn College).
This was the first time that the championships have been held at Falmouth School and it was a resounding success. The winners of each age group have now qualified for the English Schools National Finals at Doncaster on 26 April.
Winners: Boys Under 19: Alex Wright (Truro College), Boys Under 16: Carl Baldry (Bodmin College), Boys Under 13: Harry Nicholls (Torpoint School), Boys Under 11: Dylan Tynan (Mylor CP School), Girls Under 16: Dominique Williams (Falmouth School), Girls Under 13: Jade Baldry (Bodmin College), Girls Under 11: Angharad Beamon (Gunnislake CP School)
