Saturday saw Falmouth Golf Club stage the Cornwall Golf Union foursomes Goblets qualifiers with the top four pairs representing the club on County Week which this year is being held at Tehidy Park.

Medal Foursomes is probably the most difficult format in golf and can even see long time "friends" crossed off the Christmas card list.

The event produced a blanket finish with the top four pairs each carding net 70s.

Top of the pile were Mike Watmore and Robbie Edgson, who played steadily throughout and their net 34 on the back nine was good enough to win by half a shot from Richie Perrin and Steve Briers who, despite a level par gross back nine of 37, had to settle for the runners-up spot.

Simon Hirst and Andy Morris took third place a further half shot back on countback and making up the quartet of pairs for County Week were Shaun Ramsey and Steve Thomas, whose countback was net 36.

In the event of one of the pairs not being able to attend, fifth place went to Ben Short and Paul Kneebone with a net 72.

Happiest pair in the bar was Roger Fairburn and Gary Wall who recorded the only two and secured the lucrative jackpot.

On Wednesday, the Monthly Medal was won by Steve Jones with a fine net 67. Runner-up was in-form youngster Ben Browning with a net 68 and the lowest gross score of the day 75.

Third was Ross Taylor on countback from Callum Davis, both playing well for their respective net 69s.

Falmouth Golf Club will shortly be announcing full details of their participation in National Golf Month.

National Golf Month – May 2014 – is an initiative driven by the British Golf Industry Association (BGIA) and Bauer Media that gives golf clubs the opportunity to promote offers through the National Golf Month website that will target both lapsed and new members.
