Helston Athletic 5 Sticker 3

Helston Athletic are still very much in the hunt for promotion from division one west after a superb attacking display saw them beat Sticker 5-3 at foggy Kellaway Parc.

The scoreline failed to reflect just how dominant Helston were, with Blues boss Sid Taylor bemoaning some poor defending in the second half which allowed Sticker back into the game.

But to criticise Helston for their defensive failings would be churlish. Especially when they were so clinical going forward.

Mark Goldsworthy scored two and Tom Russell one as the Blues raced into a three goal lead inside the first 15 minutes, Goldsworthy reacting quickest to flick the ball past Sticker keeper Ryan Holland after 9 minutes to make it 1-0.

Russell took advantage of some poor defending to break clear and slide a shot into the bottom corner five minutes later, before Goldsworthy doubled his tally, pouncing to poke in the rebound after Holland had saved from Russell.

Some sloppy defending just before the break allowed Andrew Butler to pull a goal back for Sticker to make it 3-1.

And Butler struck again a minute after the restart, curling a shot from the edge of the box past the outstretched arm of Martyn Webster to give the visitors hope of salvaging something from the game.

But Matt Fox restored Helston's two goal lead after 61 minutes, tapping into the roof of the net from Dan Stidwell's deep cross.

And Phil Black, on as a second half substitute, made sure of the win late on with a stunning back post volley which rocketed into the far corner off the underside of the crossbar, leaving Holland no chance.

Sticker captain Bradley Ralph pulled a goal back in the 85th minute when he nodded in a loose ball after Webster failed to gather a high cross into the box.

But Ralph's refusal to celebrate spoke volumes, and in the end it was little consolation for Sticker.
