Falmouth Eagles 20 Tiverton 23
The Eagles went into Saturday's game expecting a tough test against one of the Cornwall and Devon league's top sides, but in the end had only themselves to blame for not coming away with the win.
Falmouth led on three seperate occasions, only to allow the visitors back into the game via the boot of Callum Stone.
It was Stone's penalty kick late in the game which sealed a barely deserved victory for Tivvy, who remain seven points behind league leaders Exeter University.
Falmouth took the lead in the first half when Kieran Rodda went over in the corner from a stolen Tiverton lineout.
But Stone restored parity with a try for the visitors, only for Justyn Irons to break clear and play in Tom Spiller, who in turn set up Paul Saberton to cross the whitewash and snatch the lead back for Phil Angove's side.
Back came Tiverton with a try from Richard Tucker to level the scores, before Eagles hooker AJ Geach continued his impressive run of scoring with another try following a spell of Eagles pressure.
Stone levelled the scores with another penalty kick, only for the Eagles to hit back after the restart with a penalty kick of their own.
As both sides tired the game broke down into an attritional midfield battle.
But with ten minutes left on the clock Falmouth gave away yet another penalty and Stone held his nerve to slot the ball over.
In the dying minutes Falmouth pushed hard for a winning score, but it wasn't to be as Tiverton held firm.
Falmouth try scorers: Rodda, Saberton, Geach; Cons: Irons; Pens: Irons.
Tiverton scorers: Stone, tucker; Cons: Stone (2); Pens: Stone (3).
