Two of Falmouth Golf Club’s finest battled it out in the Battershill Salver qualifier where the top 16 go forward to a knockout competition on one of those “mizzly” days at Pennance on Saturday.

Dave Holland just edged out Richie Perrin with a brace of dramatic birdies at the last two holes to win by one shot.

Despite opening up with a double bogey at the first Dave quickly got back on track with a birdie at the fourth followed by a rock solid round to card a fine net 71. two below the competition scratch score.

Richie played well but had just the one birdie at the 11th. for his net 72. Both players are now playing off a handicap of five.

Third was Bob Pine with a net 72 including a triple bogey at the seventh hole.

In fourth place also with a net 72 was Peter Gaylard having unfortunately carded a double bogey at sixteen and a bogey six at the last.

Scratch golfer Mark Carter returned the best gross score of 76.

During the week Steve Robbins had one of those dream rounds including an “Albatross” hole in one at the par four 268 yard 12th hole.
