Lankelly U13s 17 Falmouth U13s 28

Falmouth U13s made the trip to Lankelly, whose pitch has the steepest slope in the county, for their last fixture of the season.

The holidays meant a number of regulars were missing and Falmouth turned up with a bare fifteen.

Falmouth played down the hill first half and enjoyed a good share of possession. The Lankelly side was very robust with powerful players throughout.

Falmouth’s scrum, with stand-in hooker, Archie, held its own and provided enough steady ball in what were very wet and muddy conditions, to mount a number of good attacks.

Indeed, Archie provided a number of balls against the head. Billy opened the scoring after some good phases of play and Olly converted.

The slope was helping the away side and after some uncompromising play, Max powered his way over and Olly again converted.

Half time came and it seemed likely that Falmouth hadn’t quite used the slope advantage enough. Indeed, after five minutes, Lankelly pressure and a five yard scrum saw them get an unconverted score.

Falmouth could well have imagined that their task was now too great but an outstanding spell of defiance, thunderous tackles from Max, a shiner for Cameron and some brute strength from Joe in the centre, saw captain Billy climb the gradient for a super converted score to extend the lead.

Lewis, Josh, Tom and Jasper were working hard in defence but the slope again proved too much to defend and Lankelly scored two further tries to bring the lead down to four points.

Dylan and Bryn were working well on the wings making good decisions and working well at the ruck.
At scrum half, Ned was coping well in the conditions, snipping around the fringes and providing good ball for Olly, who was also having a very composed game at fly half.
The decisive score game with Falmouth in their own twenty two,  Max taking the ball down the line, stepping past two players and then out-pacing the defence to score a lung -busting try.
The final ten minutes saw Jago produce an adrenalin-charged run at the home defence.
The Man of the Match award went to Ned, and the crunchie bar award was shared between Joe and Max.
