Clevedon 17 Camborne 37

Camborne recorded another superb away South West One win to complete a highly successful campaign by running in five tries at Clevedon.

This was the replay of the game halted earlier in the season when the posts at one end of the ground collapsed.

Though the Cherry & Whites miss out on the play-off spot the victory sees them climb above St Austell to finish in 3rd spot and gain the bragging rights as the highest ranked Cornish wholly amateur community club in the League set up.

After the hard fought Tribute Cornwall Cup semi final midweek ‘Town’ welcomed back hooker Sam Bartle and the ‘cup tied’ Alex Ducker but were forced into further changes with player/coach Liam Chapple starting at full back.

Although the visitors fell behind 7-0 early on, a try, conversion and penalty from wing Ducker gave the visitors a deserved lead inside the first quarter. Things improved further when outstanding flanker George Hall crashed over on the half hour and although Clevedon retaliated with an unconverted effort Camborne went into the break 15-12 in front.

From the 2nd half resumption the Cherry & Whites hit a fifteen minute purple patch that put the game beyond the home side running in two tries one of which Ducker converted for a 15 point advantage.

First to cross was stalwart right wing Rob Floyd and he was followed over on 55 minutes by all action scrum half Dean Pascoe who raced clear to dot down and secure the bonus point for the visitors.

Inside the final quarter Clevedon gained some consolation with their third try to cut the deficit to 17-27 but ‘Town’ were not to be denied as livewire Ducker added a further penalty, interception try and conversion to finish with a 22 personal point haul and round off an excellent win.

Camborne now look ahead to the Tribute Cornwall Cup final clash with St Austell on Monday 5th May.
