Helston Athletic 4 Veryan 2

Helston staged a classy second half comeback to beat Veryan at Bodieve Park and claim the Cornwall Junior Cup for the first time in the club's history.

Goals from Will Paul, captain Shaun Parker, and a brace from Chris Reed sealed victory for the Blues, who trailed by a goal to nil at the break after Bobbylee Johns opened the scoring for Veryan.

The Duchy League side were well on top in the first half, with Helston looking uncharacteristically shaky at the back.

They took the lead in the 15th minute when a high foot in the box resulted in an indirect free kick. Justin Trebilcock teed up Johns, who found the top corner with a fine effort.

But Helston battled back, and were much improved after the break.

Will Paul drew the Blues level when his free kick from 35 yards out looped over the head of Veryan goalkeeper Eliot Turner, and from then on it was one way traffic.

Reed scored his first of the game 12 minutes later, volleying in from the edge of the six yard box.

And Parker's superb free kick over the Veryan wall and in off the post put the Blues 3-1 up.

A nudge on Johns in the Helston box with ten minutes to go gave the Veryan forward the chance to pull a goal back from the penalty spot.

But Reed's goal in stoppage time sealed a famous win for Helston, and sparked wild celebrations on the touchline.
