Truro 180-8 Falmouth 106

It wasn’t quite the weekend that Falmouth might had hoped for to start their season proper, following the opening weekend wash out. In the Jolly’s Drinks Premier 50/50 Cup on Saturday they were second best, by a long chalk, at Truro.

The margin of 74 runs might well had been a lot worse, had new overseas player Arup Revandkar not produced an excellent innings. Then on Sunday, albeit with a number of regulars missing, they lost to St Just at Trescobeas in the National Club Knock-Out competition.

On Holiday Monday the weather won  the day with only 32 overs possible at Camborne in the 50/50 Cup game. With only Saturday’s home game with St Just left (1pm) the chances of qualifying for the semi-finals are all but over

At Boscawen Park on Saturday the home side got off to a good start reaching 115 before losing their third wicket.

Tim Marrion (31), Scott Harvey (39) got them off to a solid start adding 70 for the first wicket before Guy Leathley got the breakthrough.  With the rest of the top order all getting into double figures they ended on 180 for eight off the full 50 overs. Glyn Furnival took three for 37 from his ten overs, on debut.

Leathley ended with two for 38 and there was one each for Antony Angove and Craig Mouatt. The Falmouth reply was one to forget. Kyle Van Rooyen and new skipper Rob Harrison ripped into the top order as 7 for four  soon became 24 for seven, and an embarrassingly early finish loomed. Revandkar though stopped the rot and with Kieran Rodda (13) added 48 for the eighth wicket.
The Indian was last out for 56. Van Rooyen took four for 22 and Harrison three for 18.
