ALONG with Cornish captain Matt Mossop, from Mabe, and vice captain Tom Carlin, Josh Chant from Truro College was picked for the England side to face the USA on Saturday May 3, at St Andrews in Scotland.

All three ran tirelessly to keep pressure on the Americans and only a fine save from the USA Captain denied Mossop’s fierce effort in the last moments of the game which England won 8-0.

With their international players playing back to back matches, the Cornish took on Caithness in an historic encounter.

This was the first time the Duchy met the John O’Groats County side, and it resulted in the first international silverware for the Cornwall team this millennium. The intense contest ended 3-1 to the Pasties, despite a number of key first team players absent in the exam period.

The speedy Cornish made up the bulk of the English Sixes team on Sunday May 4, reaching the quarter finals of the prestigious St Andrews Sixes tournament, before a last minute goal by the Scots put them out.

As the medals were presented by Archie Robertson, President of the World Camanachd Association (shinty's governing body), the English Shinty AGM voted Mossop England Vice Captain and Carlin England Universities Officer, an unprecedented success for the club.

With four of the Cornish picked for the next English Shinty clash in the Bullough Cup in Ballachulish (West coast Scotland), there’ll be a lot of miles clocked up for the Pasties.

Cornwall Shinty Club is delighted to be working with GE Licensing, ShintyShop and the New Inn, their home in Mabe, for whose support they are hugely grateful.
