Falmouth golf course was again in immaculate condition for the popular E.T.S. cups on Saturday. The format was teams of three off three quarters handicaps (maximum 20) and the best two scores counting on each hole. It was another big entry with 93 playing in 31 teams.

It was a close run thing with a solitary point separating each of the first three places. The winning triumvirate was Andy Kemp Simon Cooper and Clive Ahrens with an aggregate of 82 points. They reached the half way point with 40 points despite only Simon managing to score on two of the holes (3rd and 6th). The 4 pointer from Clive at the stroke 1 seventh was to prove crucial in the end. They gelled perfectly on the homeward nine with Andy playing the anchor roll by recording a score on each hole (20 points) including a 4 pointer birdie three at the 12th.

Runners up were Paul Collins Terry Dickinson and Nick Morrison. They also carded 40 points on the front nine with Terry and Nick both scoring 4 pointers at the 3rd and 6th holes respectively. Paul had a birdie 2 at the 11th but in the end they came up just the one point short.
Third were Bob Brown Nick Brown and Ray Clark. They were off the pace following the front nine by totalling just 37 points but then stormed the back nine with 43 points to deservedly get among the prizes.

For all those who didn`t do too well (plenty of those!) the 3-30 p.m. entertainment by the sensational Red Arrows display team as they dived and rolled over the golf course provided a good consolation.

On Thursday the Falmouth Seniors led by Vice Captain Bruce Gilbert overcame visitors Porthpean by seven matches to one.

This Saturday is the rearranged John Rose Memorial Cup which was postponed earlier in the year.
