CORNISH Rebels' players will get the chance to defend their South West Challenge Cup title after thrashing Plymouth Titans in their semi-final on Sunday.

Ten tries were scored by the Cornishmen with braces from Matthew Shepherd and Grant Thirlby along with touchdowns for Kye Beasley, Martyn Lawrence, James Martin, Darren Pellow, Matt Williams and Scott Murray.

Beasley opened the scoring in the third minute before a superb run by the giant Lawrence split the Titan defence from the halfway line and double the host’s lead nine minutes later.

In between these tries, the visitors were able to pile on pressure in the Rebel’s 22, but wasteful final passes and indiscipline saw them fail to get a grip of the game.

Then in the 20th minute, Shepherd with the ball about ten metres into his own half saw a gap in the Titan defence and sprinted through it and all the way to the try line to make it 18-0.

A brilliant passing move by the Rebel’s with Lawrence and Ashley Lawton battering through opponents with their runs and a beautiful offload by Platt set Martin free to score.

Another sweeping passing move sent Shepherd over for his second in the 25th minute and the home side into a 30-0 half time lead.

It did not take the Rebel’s long to extend their lead after the break when Shepherd set up Thirlby in the 44th minute before Pellow added another two minutes later.

Thirlby made it 48-0 in the 49th minute before Ozzy Flowers finally put the Titans on the scoreboard in the 55th minute with the first of four tries he would score and convert himself.

But it was far too late for the visitors and Murray and Williams completed the scoring for the Cornishmen with tries in the 58th and 63rd minute.
