EIGHT wickets in as many overs saw St Gluvias crush Wendron in their Mining Division Evening League match on Wednesday night.

The team from Penryn won by nine wickets after bowling their counterparts out for a measly 29 runs at Kenrick Road in the Twenty20 game.

At one stage the visitors were rattled down to 16-8 as wickets fell one after another with Gluvias' skipper Sam Duckham providing a devastating opening spell alongside Sam Kruse.

The latter claimed a hat-trick during his spell and ended with figures of five for eight off his allotted four overs. His trio of victims in three balls during his final over were Jordan Oakden-Matthews, Tom Burley and Peter Alsop.

Duckham, who had lost the toss, had figures of three wickets for eight and included a spectacular mid-air caught and bowled effort which ended with the host's captain landing on his back but clinging onto the ball to send Wendron's number six batsman James Collins back to the pavilion.

Oliver Walker and Imran Bashir swept up the final two wickets to finish Wendron's innings after just 11.2 overs.

It then took St Gluvias just 3.4 overs to reach their tiny target for the loss of just one wicket as James Lilly was given out LBW off Burley's bowling for a duck.

Matthew Ambrose and Gabriel Williamson completed the task of chasing down the 30 runs getting 13 and nine respectively.

The win pushed St Gluvias into second place in Group D and keeps their hopes of reaching the semi finals alive.

Perranarworthal remain top of the group by two points after defeating Mawnan by 123 runs after they bowled their opponents out for just 42.

The group leaders next face Constantine tonight at home while St Gluvias have a bye week.
