A THIRD fifty in a row for Jack Willey helped St Gluvias’ second side win on their travels at St Buryan on Saturday.

The teenager hit 80 before being bowled by Christopher Phillips to add with recent knocks of 62 and 54 in his previous two Cornwall Cricket League appearances.

His score along with Matt Ambrose’s 70 not out saw St Gluvias sail over the finish line as they chased down a total of 191 with 16.4 overs to spare.

The visitors lost the toss and were put into field by home skipper Trevor Cotton.

An electric start was made by Buryan as opening batsmen Dylan Hudson and Jowan Stedmon piled on the runs with 36 being hit in the first three overs as the away bowlers Richard Bannister and Sam Kruse found getting a decent line or length difficult.

It took a steady over by skipper Kevin Hawke to wheel the Saints back into the match as he got Stedmon out for 26 as he was caught by Kirk Oldfield.

This brought Cotton to the crease and he helped get his side to 72 as his opposition still tried to find their way into the game.

However, a stunning one handed catch by Mark Snowdon saw off Hudson for 31 and sent his team-mates into a frenzy which also appeared to wake them up.

A tidy eight over spell by Ambrose saw him pick up three wickets for 29 runs along with a brilliant display of off-spin bowling from young Joe Nesbitt, who found plenty of turn and bounce to pick up two wickets for 21 including Cotton for 43.

Buryan were bowled out for 191 in the 46th over and then it was the turn of the in form Willey to step up and set his team off to a good start.

His innings included 13 fours and two massive sixes which flew out of the ground, setting a pace to the innings which would push St Gluvias to the win.

This victory means St Gluvias, who play Camborne thirds on Saturday at home, leapfrogged Perranporth into third place in Division Four West.
