CORNWALL'S bowls team had a frustrating weekend away in Dorset as their bid to make the knockout stages of the Middleton Cup suffered a blow.
The hosts won 18-4 over the Duchy. Tim Phillips, John Staffords and Ian Ball's rinks all picked up hard fought wins whilst Ian Drew's rink going into the last end three shots up dropped a four to lose by one shot.
Mark Reid ditched the jack to hold a three only to see the jack trickle along the ditch and go out hence. On the replayed end, Reid drew his last bowl to be holding two but the Dorset skip managed to take out one of his shots and so his rink finally drew.
Colin Binny's rink had bad luck in the last few ends. They went into the last end two up but good fortune favoured Dorset as they scrambled two shots to draw on this rink as well.
Cornwall have played all their group matches finishing with a total of 56 points whilst Devon have 40 but with their game at Hereford still to play.
Devon only need to win the match to progress to the quarter final stages.
