A BOWLS club has celebrated their 60th anniversary by unveiling a special plaque to commemorate the milestone.

Penryn Bowls Club marked the birthday by adding the plaque to their clubhouse in Quay Hill with Bowls England Junior Vice President Michael Jennings pulling the strings to reveal it.

Alongside this, a talk was given at the club by Jennings about the sport and the history of Penryn BC which has seen players such as Gwen Daniels go onto represent England.

A match was also played between the club’s men and women players, with the ladies coming out victorious in the end.

In the week building up to the birthday, various events were held at the club including a 1950s entertainment night which helped raise £280 for Cornwall Air Ambulance.

A special offer has also been set up as part of the celebrations with anyone new to bowls being offered membership for free, with information available at the clubhouse.
