MULLION Second’s tail showed a lack of wagging as they lost to Falmouth’s Third team on Saturday.

The visitors batting first went from 80-3 to 119 all out with seven wickets falling for just 39 runs at the Channel Four ground.

Given the conditions, the toss was very important and was won by the Falmouth skipper Fern Nicholls who had no hesitation in putting Mullion into bat first.

Mullion appeared to be in no trouble whatsoever, but then hit the self destruct button as they sunk to a below par score. David Brown topped scored with 49, and skipper Darren Turner was left stranded on 20.

The pick of the Falmouth bowlers was Mike Hoban who claimed figures of four for 27 from seven overs while Steve Nicholls grabbed two scalps for the loss of just 14 runs in eight overs.

Falmouth reached their target in the 34th over for the loss of seven wickets. Opening bat Daniel Hadley finished on 32 not out and Greg Stevens unbeaten on 34.

Mullion Second XI do not have a league game next Saturday, due to the withdrawal of Leedstown’s Second XI earlier in the season, but they are hoping to entertain Paul Seconds at Garro Lane.

Falmouth Thirds travel to Crofty/Holmes Seconds this weekend.
