FALMOUTH Golf Club attracted 101 members for the Martin Furze cup on Saturday played off a maximum handicap of 20 on another excellent day for golf, writes Keith Rashleigh.

Shaun Ramsey led the way with an impressive net 66. Shaun who took second place last week served notice of intent by paring the first seven holes before carding a double bogey five at the par three 184 yard eighth followed by a bogey at the par four ninth for a gross 38 front nine.

He soon got back into the swing of things played solidly through the back nine to finish six under par net to win by two strokes from the “evergreen” Bobby Richardson who also played well for his net 68 to take second place on count backs from the chasing posse of Adam Pryor, Pete Gaylard, Malcolm “Bert” Coulls and Laurie Magowan respectively.

The best gross score was returned by Nick Chinn 73. There were seven twos including a brace by Robert Edwards at the second and fifth holes, 21 “no returns” and two disqualifications.

This Saturday the Frank George Salver is being played.

On Sunday the Royal Duchy Bowls Open is being held at the course with an evening presentation.
