A CONSISTENT round from Andrew Varney saw him collect first prize in the George Benney Memorial Cup at Budock Vean Golf Club on Sunday.

He carded 67 at the course to claim victory in the competition be a single shot from David Penrose who was runner-up on count back ahead of Stephen Crouch and David Allen.

Varney’s win was not the only trophy played for at the club during the week with the ladies participating in two tournaments on Wednesday.

Senior members took part in the Barbara Bryan Trophy, a nine hole stableford formatted contest, with the title going to Barbara Craig who scored 20 points, beating Sue Parsons into second place with 18.

For younger players the Three Clubs and a Putter competition was held with the winner being Jill Sulley in a tight affair claiming victory on count back from Shirley Mildren after both scored 40 points while third place went to Mo Salome on 36.

On Tuesday, two medal competitions were held with the Champion of Champions being won by Rob Gibson with 67, winning on count back from David Gibbons, while first place in the Monthly Medal went to Rod Butler with an excellent score of 64, two ahead of Alan Mills.

The course’s senior team were also involved in a match away at Newquay on Monday, but were return to Budock Vean beaten as hosts won 6 – 2.

Geoff Mills and Martin Salome were the only pair from Budock to win their match while the duos of Mills and David Russell and John Craig and Martin Hooper halved their games.
