HELSTON’S last two games could hardly have been more contrasting, writes Michael Weeks.

The previous week only seventy-five minutes of play took place, and 58 runs scored, at Beacon Park against Troon. Last weekend however, on the borders of North Cornwall, no fewer than all but 600 runs were scored with Helston winning by 65.

Skipper Dan Jenkin led the way hitting 3 sixes and 21 fours in his 137 made off 115 balls. He was third out with 259 on the board. Stuart Pethick, who scored 42, added 69 for the first wicket before he was lbw to Peter West.

Alex Kill went for 18 but Ben Rule combined with Jenkin to add 134 for the third wicket. After hitting seven fours Rule was caught off Gavin Wallis for 69. Tommy Sturgess hit two sixes in his 18 off nine balls. Ross Leathley made 21 at a run a ball and Steve Jenkin was 13 not out. Peter West with three for 47 off nine overs was the pick of the home attack.

Launceston made a creditable reply led by Ryan Crabb, who hit four sixes in his 76 after Liam Tilley made 40.

The top nine all got double figures. Jordan Fulton, the Jenkin brothers and Ross Leathley got two wickets each.

Helston are on the road again on Saturday with a trip to Wadebridge.

Egloshayle Park has fond memories for Helston as they won last year’s Division Two County Final there, beating Launceston.
