CRICKET: Hat-trick time for Sam again
SOME bowlers go through their entire cricket career without picking up a much feted hat-trick to their name.
But for one player from Penryn, he has gone and achieved the feat of claiming three wickets in as many balls in just three weeks.
St Gluvias bowler Sam Kruse completed the remarkable moment on Wednesday evening when he sent Marsh Fernando, Jacob Johnson and Aron Stocks back to the pavilion in consecutive balls during their Mining League pool game at home to Constantine.
The first two victims were both caught at mid-wicket by team captain Sam Duckham before bowling Stocks. In the same over he also bowled Alex Prynn for two runs.
On June 11 Kruse did the same thing in another Twenty20 game against Wendron where he removed Jordan Oakden-Matthews, Tom Burley and Peter Alsop for a hat-trick, ending with figures of five for eight.
Kruse said after the Constantine game: “It was a really enjoyable match and getting a second hat-trick within a few weeks really topped it off.
“Before the one I got at Wendron I never had a hat-trick before, so to have two now is really incredible.
“As I was running up to bowl the third ball on Wednesday, I felt like it wasn’t possible or likely to get another hat-trick so soon as they are quite rare in the game, but then when the stumps went it was just felt so surreal.”
His efforts helped set up a 32 victory for St Gluvias in the final game of the group stage.
