AN EXCELLENT round of 56 handed Dave Ladner the Haulfryn Cup title at Praa Sands Golf and Country Club on Saturday.

The annual competition saw a large field enter in both the male and female sections but it was Ladner who carded 74 before his handicap deduction took his total down to his winning score.

Andy Hurrell was pushed into second place by one shot while Matt Tregenza finished in third place, Scott Willett fourth and Brian Gent was fifth.

In the ladies’ competition there was just a single shot dividing the top two players with Phyllis Williams pipping Caroline Hardman to the title with her score of 66.

Third place went to Linda Dunford with a round of 68 while Judy Thomas and Alison Jacka finished in fourth and fifth place respectively.

Other games were held during the popular tournament with longest drive and nearest to the pin contests taking place.

On the men’s side, Ryan Semmens won the longest drive and among the females, Helen Carson from Mullion won the silver division of the competition before her clubmate Liz Whittaker took home the bronze division.

Tregenza backed up his third place finish in the main tournament with first place in the nearest to the pin contest.

Earlier in the week, Williams had also performed well as she took part in the Sandum Salver Mixed Foursomes Stableford at the course with her playing partner John Friggens.

The duo came second behind Willett and Margaret Richardson who won the trophy with a score of 35 points.

Mel Smith with the Ogres Captain’s Day with 45 points, beating Roy Hillyar by two points while Gary Peters finished third with 40. Jim Blain won the nearest to the pin competition and Alan Lawrence was crowned longest driver winner.

Club member Linda Dunford also had a week to remember as she won the Andrews Trophy during the Cornwall Ladies County Golf Association Bronze Shield competition held at Mullion on Thursday carding a net round of 69 to bring home the cup Next Saturday the Ladies play for the Leddra Cup and on Sunday the Men play for the Phillips Trophy, with all proceeds from the weekend going to the Air Ambulance Charity, and on Monday there is the Treliske Trophy competition for all playing members.
