A FIVE-A-SIDE tournament was held for third time at Mullion FC in memory of their former groundsman.

The Ben Greet Memorial Trophy was played for at Clifton Parc on Saturday with 11 sides entering the competition which proved to be very exciting.

After the group stages, two of the quarter finals had to be decided through penalty shoot-outs before the final played between Murder On Zidane’s Floor and Passalona FC going to extra time.

Glory eventually went to Zidane’s after Ash Stidwell scored the only goal of the final.

The tournament is held in memory of Greet who was the club’s head groundsman for years, during which the pitch at Mullion won awards for it’s high quality.

Medals were handed over by his son Paul on the day which club chairman Chris Rosevear saying the competition was fantastic.

Rosevear said: “I’d like to say well done to all the teams who entered.

“Special congratulations must go to Murder on Zidane’s Floor for picking up the trophy.

“We are really grateful for the support of the Greet Family and to Paul Greet who has come along today to present the cup.”

First Team Manager Alan Carey added: “What a great event Mullion FC has put on today, well done to all the teams who took part. It is a testament to the memory of Ben Greet how well the event has been supported.”

Another memorial competition, the Ron Curnow Cup involving Mullion, Cury, Lizard Argyle and St Keverne starts on July 22.

The final will be held four days later at Clifton Parc.

The first match of the competition will see Lizard play St Keverne before Cury and Mullion face off with each other the following day.

Winners of the two games will contest the final while the losers will meet in a third place play-off.

Alongside the matches, family entertainment will be provided on the finals day.
