FALMOUTH Golf course was full to bursting point on Saturday for the President’s Putter with over 150 entrants from all sections of the club pegging it up.

The junior event was well won by Keiran Ashley with a fine net 64 including birdies at the first, fourth, eighth and 13th holes. Liam Ashley took the runners up spot on countback, just pipping Tom Lentern with both players carding net 69s. The best gross went to Ben Browning with a fantastic 71 being returned by this most impressive five handicapper who had birdies at the 12th and 16th holes and also won nearest the pin. Connor “The Tank” Davidson won the longest drive.

Rebecca Beer won the Ladies event with a very good score of net 69 and also won the nearest the pin prize with Donna Craig also playing well to finish just one stroke behind.

Lynne Dickinson took third place with a net 72 and also won the longest drive. Carmel Connors carded a fine gross 81 to take the scratch prize.

Marek Churcher turned in a five star performance to win the gents section with a brilliant one under par gross 71 for a net 64, before also winning the nearest the pin prize.

Runner up was Darren Horton, who following his win last Saturday just pipped Ben Short on countback thanks to a superb back nine that included five birdies with both players returning net 65s. Nicky Chinn was awarded the best gross prize with a superb level par 72 which included birdies at the 12th and 15th holes.

The overall winner on the day was Paul Caunter with a terrific net 63 despite a triple bogey eight on the penultimate hole.

The longest drive was by Scott Pedlar who also did a fine job in raising extra funds as auctioneer during the evening.

A total of £1,450 was raised during the event and this will be shared in memory of Peter Ould and Rose Ward with donations going to the Heart Functions Unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital and The King Charles Nursing Home.

The Falmouth Hotel Bowl will be played on Saturday.
