SID Taylor believes five new names coming to his Helston squad this year will all provide something different to the squad.

Ahead of their South West Peninsula League campaign starting on August 9, the Blues have signed forward Jason Robertson from Falmouth Town, defender Kirk Davies from Penryn Athletic, goalkeeper James Wignell from Culdrose and Mikey Davies, a striker, and attacking midfielder Connor Davey from Truro City.

Taylor hopes the quintet of players can all provide a boost to his team going into the 2014/15 season.

He said: “Jason was the first team goalkeeper for us two seasons ago but left to play outfield for St Day before going to Falmouth.

“But now he has come back to his home town team to play upfront, although he is versatile and can play in any position on the pitch.

“Kirk can play anywhere along the back and is pacey, loves tackling and getting forward, but I’m hoping he can sure up our defence this season.

“In Mikey we have someone who is fast thinking and has a lot of Peninsula experience. Connor is a busy young playmaker who is as comfortable playing in midfield or just behind the centre forward.

“Wignall has signed with us full time from Culdrose and we are hoping he can make a good impact in goal for us.”

Each got a run out on Friday night as the Blues welcomed Redruth United to Kellaway Park for a pre-season friendly, which finished 2-2 with all the goals coming in the first half.
