NEWQUAY claimed the 2014 Across The Bay gig rowing race title on Wednesday evening.

Onboard their boat Hope, the crew swept to victory in the endurance race which saw mixed sex crews row from St Michael's Mount to Porthleven harbour which took about an hour to complete.

The Newquay team had pulled away shortly after the start along with Mount Bay's A crew, but then another push as they passed Praa Sands put them in front and unable to be caught by their rivals.

Mount Bay's B team came third with host club Porthleven seeing their A crew finish fourth.
