KEEPING Falmouth Town in the Peninsula Premier League is the main target for the club this season according to boss John Dent.

Last season, the Ambers steered clear of relegation after a tough year on and off the field.

The team won just eight of their 38 games in the league and had to put up their Bickland Park stadium up for sale as they struggled financially.

Despite the hard times experience in 2013/14, Dent believes the team will be able to keep things together on the pitch as they look to stay in the division.

He also thinks a good cup run could give the side a much appreciated boost.

Dent said: “Our first aim of 2014/15 will be to stave off relegation, which is something we managed to do last year.

“We’ll be looking to get enough points first for this our main target and then from there see how we go.

“If things go well, I think we could get up towards a mid table finish, which would be a real bonus.

“Something I think could help us is a good cup run and this season we’ve gone into the FA Vase.

“Winning becomes a habit and a run in any cup can help with this.”

There has been plenty of activity at Bickland Park over the summer months with 12 new faces signing for Town.

Among the new squad members are Danny Carne, Josh Burton and Kayne Trevaskis from Perranporth, Ryan Chinn from Penryn Athletic, Josh Sims from St Blazey and Andrew Sincock, who decided against a move to Newquay, who Town face on Saturday, in favour of the Ambers.

Departures from the club have included Jason Robertson, who signed for Helston Athletic, and Thomas Whipp who joined Bodmin Town.

Dent said the mood around pre-season training has been good, adding the club has been looking at ways to get the squad to gel.

“The team spirit is excellent,” he said.

“Getting 12 new players is quite a lot to get ahead of a season.

“So to help out we have organised a couple of weekends away for the team to build up rapport with each other.

“They have gone really well and get the side gelling together well.

“Everybody has worked hard during pre-season and we are all looking forward to the season starting.”

He went onto say Saturday’s opener against Newquay will be tough, but knows his team will give it their all.

Dent said: “Newquay are a good footballing side and I expect them to come here and keep to that pattern.

“We have a couple of injury problems in the centre of defence at the minute so that will make it harder.

“But the start of the season is always a bit of an adventure into the unknown and we will not step down from the challenge.”
