HELSTON are up to third in the County One table after another good batting performance at Beacon Park.

They made the big score of 296-8 in their 50 overs against Gorran. The visitors, who were missing skipper Robin Kendall, were all out for 186 in the 42nd over and have slipped down to sixth spot.

The Helston innings was built on an opening partnership of 148 between Dan Jenkin, who scored 79, and Ross Leathley, 56.

After three quick wickets fell, Ben Rule, with 32 runs, and Chris Martin, who hit 52, ensured a big total adding 60 for the fourth wicket to see the 200 up.

Steven Jenkin and Tommy Sturgess both hit sixes as they made 18 and 17 respectively. Andrew Grant picked up four late wickets for 31 runs.

Dan Semple claimed both openers at a cost of 49 runs off seven overs.

A total of seven Gorran batsmen got into double figures led by Joe Semple with 34. Grant made 27 and Rhys Daniel 23.

They were all out in the 42nd over with Sturgess taking three for two. Tom Retallack picked up two for 34 and Peter Boyd two for 29.

There was one ach for Jordan Fulton, Steve Jenkin and Leathley.

On Saturday Helston make the short trip to Troon. Earlier in the season Troon were all out for 28 at Beacon Park.
