HELSTON’S good second half to the season continued at Treslothan Road on Saturday with a fourth successive win in County Division One.

It keeps them in third spot and they are only eight points behind second placed Hayle, with five games to play.

The sides are due to meet at Beacon Park on August Bank Holiday Monday.

In the meantime Helston host Stithians this weekend, with the earlier start time of 1pm as the evenings pull in.

On Saturday, it was another excellent batting performance from Helston as they piled up 257-9 in their 50 overs.

Dan Jenkin and Ross Leathley got their side off to a good start, after they had been put in.

They put on 68 for the first wicket before Jenkin was dismissed by his former skipper, Steve Eddy, for 43. He hit eight fours in his 45 balls at the crease.

Leathley went onto make 30 in a 72 ball stay before he fell to the spin of Phil Bostock, with the score at 92.

The openers laid the platform and the rest of the top order took full advantage.

Chris Martin made 30, Ben Rule 27, Tommy Sturgess 39, Steven Jenkin 26 and Josh Ninnis 15.

All the batsmen got starts as Helston passed the 200 mark, with only four wickets down on the scoreboard.

For the home side, Mark Jenkin took three for 61 and Gavin Tregenza two for 60.

In comparison, Troon lost their first five wickets for 102. Tom Retallack got an early breakthrough to get rid of Ben Page.

Jordan Fulton bowled Adam Rodda at 42 before Peter Boyd struck twice, as Mark Jenkin and Toby Whiteford perished.

Tregenza was lbw to Leathley for 39, having hit six boundaries.

Newcomer Mark Sage hit a six and eight fours in his 52 and Tom Mitchell 22, as Troon managed full batting bonus points.

They were bowled out for 207 in the 47th over. Retallack took three for 33 with two each for Sturgess and Peter Boyd.
