IT may have taken them 17 attempts, but Stithians finally recorded their first win of the 2014 Cornwall Cricket League season on Saturday.

Their much celebrated success came in the form of 32 run victory at home to Wadebridge as the visitors failed to chase down their target of 146.

Callum Martin’s four wickets for 18 proved pivotal after tea, which included the winning scalp of number 11 Matthew Dyson.

Chris Instance was Stithians’ top scorer with the bat as he made 39 runs before being run out by Andrew Barrett. His stay at the crease included being involved in the biggest partnership of the innings as he and Martin put on 40 for the fifth wicket.

Wadebridge appeared to be going well at 96-4 with plenty of overs to go. But then a big collapse saw them lose their last six batsmen for 18 runs.

Martin snaffled three of them while Ben Tann also claimed a couple of wickets.

Kieran Webber claimed the other wicket with James Maycock top scoring for Wadebridge with 24.
