SID Taylor said his Helston Athletic side are “just playing to their strengths” as their 100 per cent perfect start to the season continues.

On Saturday the Blues, who sit at the top of the South West Peninsula League West table, beat second placed Illogan RBL 3-1 at Kellaway Park, meaning they have won all six of their matches so far.

They are also averaging five goals per game at present, thanks mainly to their 16-1 thrashing at Millbrook last week, with Mark Goldsworthy leading the line with 15 strikes already to his name.

Along with this, their other options upfront in the form of Andrew Westgarth, Jason Robertson, Mikey Davies and Dan Stidwell have also been regulars on the scoresheet.

Speaking to the Packet, Taylor refused to put the “most dangerous team in the league” tag on Athletic, but said having so many good attacking choices to pick from has been crucial to their recent successes.

Taylor said: “I think at the moment it is far too early to say that we are running away with the league.

“But what we do like to do is play to our strengths and attack teams because we like to play good looking football.

“The way the strikers have played up to this point of the season has been a real bonus and we have five good strikers at the club.

“It is adding pressure on themselves as they all know they cannot have a couple of bad games in a row as it could mean them getting replaced, so that is keeping their levels up and that is a benefit for us.”

Due to Foxhole Stars pulling out of the league during the summer, Helston will not step out again onto the pitch until they meet Penzance on September 13.

Taylor admitted the break is not something his team want at the moment before adding they will be doing all they can to keep the momentum surging forward.

“There is a real buzz around the club at the moment,” he said.

“People asked me what sort of a side Millbrook had out, but on Saturday they drew with Mousehole and that shows they are not a simple pushover, we just outplayed them.

“It is a shame not to have another game for a while as the momentum is with us and when you have it, you just want to keep playing.

“But we’ll play a couple of full size games in training and get a couple of guys to help the other teams out, like Mikey and Dan have with the seconds, to keep them match ready.”
