IT was another busy week at Falmouth Golf Club where the McGregor Trophy-August Monthly Stableford played for on Wednesday, writes Keith Rashleigh.

The competition, sponsored by Kelsall Steele Financial Services, was won on countback by Brian Craig from Fred Goodman and Graham Buck who were second and third respectively.

Craig carded 13 pars and five bogeys during a very steady round. Goodman had birdies at the second and fifth but unfortunately bogied the last four holes while Buck was in position to win with another solid round, but a “blob” at the seventeenth proved costly.

Saturday saw another large turnout for club Professional Nick Rogers’ day. Ray Longstaff deservedly won with a fine score of 42 points thanks to a superb back nine of 23.

Runner-up Simon Kearsley also played well to end with a score of 42, only to lose out on the countback after getting 21 on the back nine. Andy Anderson took third place with 41.

Liam Ashley won the junior’s event with 41 on countback from Connor Davidson while Ben Browning took third prize with 35.

Rebecca Beer won the Ladies section with 35 on countback from Jane Wooldridge. Barbara Roker finished third with 33.

The nearest the pin prizes were won by Mark Carter and Matt Roberts in the Men’s section while Rebecca Beer and Angela Hunter won the Ladies.

Dave Holland and Tom Rowe did Falmouth Golf Club proud by winning Tehidy Festival week when they won the open four ball better ball event with a superb 46 points, beating former county champion Ian Veale and his partner on countback. Rowe had five birdies and Holland had three.

On Saturday, club captain Lucien Trathen will be hosting his Captain’s Day.
