Falmouth Golf Club captain Lucien Trathen welcomed an impressive 121 members to his Captain’s Day on Saturday where the weather and the course provided perfect conditions for golf.

At the end of the day there could not have been a more popular winner than Bobby Richardson who carded a superb 44 stableford points and his gross of 78 was very close to his age. A remarkable round indeed which included birdies at the 3rd, 15th and crucially one at the final hole.

The cheer around the club house as he collected the winners prize was testimony to his achievement and respect for his many years of excellence on the golf course.

Runner up was Freddie Norris with another fine total of 42 points with birdies at the 2nd, 9th and 13th holes. Third was Ian Renshaw on countback from the chasing posse of Tom Lentern. Mark Butland and Mike Watmore who all returned scores of 41 points. Andy Parry won nearest the pin at the 8th (1.2m) while Robert Edwards won the longest drive at the 18th when he smoked it some 350 yards.

Earlier in the week (Monday) the club staged a Dual County PGA Pro-Am sponsored by Ocean BMW saw a good turnout of club professionals teamed up with amateurs from their respective clubs in teams of four.

The Falmouth GC quartet of Nick Rogers (club pro), Terry Dickinson, Steve Burrows and Ian “Henry” Churcher did everyone proud as they won with a fine score of net 123.

Nick led the team superbly with his one under par gross and Steve Burrows 60-foot putt at the 16th was talked about long into the night. Runners-up were Okehampton GC with 126 and third were China Fleet GC with 127.

There, professional James Ruth won the professional prize with a brilliant sixunder par round carding 33 strokes on each nine.
