GREENBANK Rowing Club ended the regatta season on a high at the last West of England Amateur Rowing Association event held on the river Torridge at Bideford.

Racing over a 1000m course, crews fought for the last of the WEARA Championship points and the final medals of the season.

The outstanding win of the day came from Tom Worden who finished ahead of a talented field of U18 single scullers and secured the WEARA Championship title having picked up the most points across the series of ten association regattas.

The former U16 WEARA single sculls champion showed consistency and great form across the season to triumph again.

Greenbank's Becky Davison, Kea Wheat, Mary Smith, Ellie Green and cox Alice Tetley demonstrated their improvement over the summer by taking a clear win in the championship Novice Fours event.

Similarly, the Men's Senior C Four of Richard Braunton, Andy Westcott, Tim Wilkinson and Phil Farndon took a two length win over a strong field including the overall winners of the championship in the event.

Other wins for the club came in the mixed novice four, the men's novice double of Farndon and Wilkinson and club chairman James Kerr also showed his experience and skill on the tricky water by taking the Senior A single sculls title.

Thoughts now turn to the forthcoming Autumn races which will include an international sculling event in Italy.

The club welcomes anyone, with or without experience of the sport, to come along and give it a go.

Whether interested in recreational or competitive rowing, the club offers a range of opportunities and sessions and promises a warm welcome.
