A WHIRLWIND first half performance saw Wendron United start their Cornwall Senior Cup campaign with a 6-0 hammering over Goonhavern Athletic on Saturday.

Strikes from Chris Mulroy, Jason Roberts, who bagged two goals each, helped set up the victory in the preliminary round and were added to be shots from Luke Wort and Justin Searle.

Last season Dron progressed all the way to the quarter final before being toppled 3-0 by Bodmin Town, who would go on to lose on penalties in the final.

Mulroy got the ball rolling for Dron after 15 minutes after running through the defence before slotting home.

Not long after this, Roberts got in on the action before Wort added the third after Steve Brewer’s pass put him through on goal.

Wort would play a big part in the two of the other goals with his passes set up Mulroy and Roberts.

Sandwiched between these strikes came Searle’s goal which came as he crossed the ball into the box, only to see it sail into the net.

When the half time whistle blew the scoreline read 6-0 to the visitors.

No more misery was piled onto the home side after the break and Dron now face Redruth United in the first round.
