IT was finals weekend at Falmouth Golf Club and all but one of the matches were as close as one could imagine.

The odd one out was the 36 hole Club Champion Final played off scratch.

It was close after the morning round as 15-year-old Ben Browning led by two holes over Mickey Doust who had played well throughout the competition to reach the final.

He was giving a good account of himself, but Browning, who has enjoyed a terrific season, moved up through the gears in the afternoon and was two under par at the 12th green where he claimed a convincing 7 & 6 victory to become the youngest player to win this prestigious cup at Falmouth.

The Devenish Cup went to an amazing 23rd hole before Crispen Merritt wrestled the cup from Nicky Chinn.

The game looked over at the first extra hole, but Merritt had a great up and down to stay alive before claiming victory in a cracking match.

The McLeod Final saw another cliffhanger as Sean Ramsey and Mark Butland stood on the 18th tee all square where a calculated par saw Ramsey lift the cup after another exciting match.

The Spring Four Ball was another tense affair with Mike Sawden and Laurie McGowan eventually winning by one up against Simon Kearsley and Richard Harris.

On Sunday, the Married Couples Cup could also have gone either way before Gerry and Jenny Storey pipped Geoff and Liz Lloyd, also by one up.
