PENRYN Athletic joint-manager Steve Jewell beating top of the table Helston Athletic on Wednesday evening was fantastic.

Borough ran out 5-4 winners at Kernick Road in the South West Peninsula League West division, bringing an end to the Blues perfect start to the season in the process.

The win moves Borough into second place behind Helston and Jewell praised his team's performance.

Jewell said: "Obviously with Helston being such a good team, we were buzzing for the match and to get the result we did was fantastic.

"We probably gifted them two or three goals, but that's football and they will probably say the same about our goals.

"I thought the guys played with a lot of pace and produced some good football.

"I was also pleased with Alex Prynn as for a 16-year-old goalkeeper being thrust into a big game like that, he peformed really well."

He added the focus is now onto Saturday with a trip to Wadebridge Town next up for them in the league.

"I'm sure people will look at the Helston result and see it as a statement of intent from us," Jewell said.

"But all we got out of it was three points and all we are thinking about now is going to Wadebridge on Saturday."
