SID Taylor said he wants a positive response from his Helston Athletic team after suffering their first loss of the 2014/15 season.

On Wednesday evening, the Blues were beaten 5-4 by Penryn Athletic at Kernick Road in the South West Peninsula League West clash.

Before the game, Helston had won all seven previous league matches plus one in the Walter C Parson Cup.

Taylor said it was disappointing to lose their 100 per cent record, but added his side needs to react well to this defeat as they travel to Illogan RBL, currently third in the division, on Saturday.

"You expect to drop points at some point during the season and it is how you bounce back from these situations which matter most," he said.

"We knew Wednesday night would be tough and on Saturday we have another tricky game at Illogan, so we need to keep our heads up.

"We have had a wonderful start to the season with winning our first seven league games and another in the cup and if you had offered us that at the start of season, I'm sure anyone would have taken that.

"But we have to make sure we stop any type of losing streak out quickly, whether we do it on Saturday or the next game after that."

Despite being at the wrong end of the scoreline, Taylor told the Packet he thought the match with Borough was a "great advert" for the league.

Taylor said: "Overall I thought it was great with two sides attacking each other and going for it.

"I was disappointed with our defence as when you score four goals in any game, you don't expect to be on the losing side.

"I thought a couple of the referee's decisions were a bit odd too, particularly the sendings off of Ben and Ash Stidwell, both of which I thought were harsh.

"We didn't get the rub of the green in that respect, but that is how it goes sometimes in football."
